What is Parkour?
Parkour is a training discipline using movement that developed from military obstacle course training. Practitioners aim to get from point “a” to point “b” using the obstacles in their path in the fastest and most efficient way possible. Parkour involves seeing one’s environment in a new way and imagining the potential for navigating it by movement around, across, through, over and under the obstacles on the course.
Intro/Assessment Class: (Included with sign up)
The goal of this class is to introduce the student to the world and movements of Parkour. This allows the coaches to assess the child’s skill level and designate which hour they should come throughout the week. Coaches are observing child’s attention span, comprehension, behavior, etc.
Students in Beginner class are at the most basic level. They may learn foundational movements at slower pace, coordination is still developing, understanding of terminology is minimal, needs a lot of demonstration, etc. They are primarily learning how to approach new challenges safely and having fun exploring their movements and environment. They will soon be setting goals and challenges for themselves, and the student will gradually develop solid foundational skills. They may still be timid to approach challenges that are higher up. The student’s comprehension of skill names and terminology will develop to at least 80% with minimal coach demonstration.
Students in Intermediate class generally have an understanding of their coordination via other sports. This class group will mostly be geared towards goal setting and training to achieve success. Building confidence, strength and mobility. Students in Intermediate class have generally spent months enrolled in the Beginner classes or may be exceptional and in need of more advanced challenges. The maturity level is high and it becomes more about accomplishing personal challenges rather than asking what’s next.
Students in advanced class have built a strong foundation in beginner and intermediate skills. This class will teach high level parkour flow and freerunning skills. Practicing efficient flow and speed as well as flips with twisting and doubles are included. High level of skill sets, focus and maturity are required to be in this class to ensure a solid and safe learning enviroment.
